Why it works
The key to this method is to take your time and acquire vocabulary passively through spaced repetition and physically writing words down. Limit your study blocks to around 20 minutes, followed by 10-minute breaks, to keep your brain focused. Waiting at least 2 weeks ensures that short-term memory has worn off – so the words you still recognize are already in long-term memory. Cycle between new headlists and distillations every day and you will quickly amass a book filled with many words.
Basic principle
You start by writing down lists of phrases you want to learn. Then wait for at least two weeks and discover that you almost miraculously remember 30% of the expressions — long-term. Sounds incredible, right? Try it out!
